Itinerant Workshop of Photography and Sound Recording

An innovative journey that intertwines sound and image, nature and memory, technique and perception.

“The Sensory Walk” is an experiential workshop that combines field recording and photography through hands-on outdoor activities: sound and photographic walks in natural and historic settings such as forests, coastlines, riversides, villages, and ancient architecture.

The course is designed for those who wish to slow down, listen, and observe.

During each outing, participants will learn the basics of environmental recording and documentary photography, capturing soundscapes and evocative visual glimpses, with particular attention to mindful smartphone use, making the most of natural light and composition.

Photography is more than just taking a picture: it is storytelling, emotion, and memory. With simple technical tips and a touch of creativity, even a modest image can become a small masterpiece.

What We Will Do

  • Explore practical techniques for photography and video in natural and urban environments.

  • Learn to record authentic sounds using microphones and portable devices.

  • Immediately apply what is learned during guided walks and explorations.

  • Cover the basics of photo editing to enhance natural colors and contrasts.

  • Work on telling a story through sight and listening.

Final Exhibition

The workshop will conclude with a collective exhibition, where each participant will present their own audio-visual project, merging images, video, and sounds into a single sensory and poetic narrative.

Each photograph will be accompanied by its ambient soundtrack, giving voice to the places explored.

Goal

“The Sensory Walk” invites participants to rediscover the world through sound and images, turning walks into creative experiences. The workshop teaches how to capture soundscapes, visual glimpses, and natural details using simple tools like a smartphone, combining photography, field recording, and editing techniques.

The goal is to develop observation, listening, and creativity, allowing each participant to tell the story of the places they explore through a unique sensory narrative. The course concludes with a collective exhibition, where images and sounds merge into a single artistic experience.

Tools and laboratories

The workshop is open to sound artists, photographers, documentarians, educators, and enthusiasts. No professional equipment is required: a smartphone and a willingness to explore are all you need.

Programme of study

In this experiential course, The Sensory Walk guides participants through the fundamentals of field recording and photography, combining sound and image, nature and memory, technique and perception. Through guided walks and explorations in natural and historic environments—such as forests, coastlines, riversides, villages, and ancient architecture—participants will learn to capture evocative soundscapes and visual details, with a focus on mindful smartphone use, natural light, and composition.

The program is designed to cultivate a deeper connection with the environment, enhancing sensory perception, observation, and creative storytelling. Participants will explore practical techniques in photography, video, and sound capture, while learning to edit and integrate audio and visuals into coherent narratives. Emphasis is placed on immediate hands-on application during outdoor sessions, fostering experiential learning and artistic expression.

By the end of the course, participants will have a solid grounding in these interdisciplinary tools, ready to create their own audio-visual stories. The experience culminates in a collective exhibition, where images, video, and sound merge into a poetic sensory narrative, giving voice to the places explored and the individual creative perspectives of each participant.
